Step 1
Get Into Pre-Licensing

  • Plan to complete the course within 5–7 days — this is the pace we expect and it keeps your momentum going strong.

Step 2
Schedule Your Exam ASAP

Schedule your exam with PSI Exams — or if you're in NC, SC, CO, ID, TN, TX, MT, IL, FL, or GA, use Pearson VUE instead.

Don't wait — schedule your exam as soon as you finish pre-licensing. The sooner you book it, the sooner you're licensed!

Step 3
Get Fingerprinted ASAP

Fingerprints must be done within a day or two of starting pre-licensing — get them done early. Click the link below, select your state, and follow the fingerprinting instructions. If instructions aren't available, contact your state directly.

Important: Your fingerprints must be sent to the State Commissioner's Office. When you arrive, make sure to tell the staff at the fingerprinting location so they send them to the right place.

Step 1
Apply for Your License

Apply for your official state insurance license through NIPR. This is the last step before you're fully licensed and ready to go.

Processing times vary by state — apply immediately after passing so there's no delay in getting started.

Step 2
Get E&O Insurance

E&O insurance is required before you can submit any applications — all carriers require it, so get this in place as soon as your license is approved so nothing slows you down when you're ready to write business.

It typically runs $500–$1,000/year and protects you in the event a client claims an error or oversight in your recommendations. Symmetry has a sponsored E&O program through CalSurance — this is the recommended option for new agents.

Start Training Now — Don't Wait!
